About

Z Geography is a Geography blog dedicated to elevating the status of the discipline. I believe that the most useful way of doing this is to bring Geography to the people. My posts will focus primarily on ways that Geography influences our daily lives and adding my own thoughts to the direction of the discipline. As you will discover, Geography is a perspective of understanding the world around you. But beyond this, Geography (and its close cousin History) is one of the most basic social sciences – it is everything and everywhere. Think back to the five basic W-questions: Who? What? When? Why? and WHERE?

  1. Fabulous post! I agree, concur, am with you, etc!

This is what I have discovered – most people equate geography as boring, or the teacher was boring or was a coach and only did this because they had to. We need to reinvigorate K-12 instructors with enthusiasm and passion to get their students fired up about the subject! My college students would catch MY enthusiasm, so lets take it younger…

How do I subscribe to your blog? I’m unfamiliar with this blog site! Thanks!!!

    • Hi Pam, thanks for your thoughts and I absolutely agree! I just don’t think geography students (or undergrads in other disciplines for that matter) see K-12 teaching as a viable career path after college, and I’m guessing its because of the HORRIBLE pay. I’m straying a little bit from blog but there’s a major problem with a country that treats its education of its youngest people as tertiary. I remember reading an article in a Dallas newspaper years ago discussing how more parents were hiring private coaches for their children, rather than private tutors. Go figure!

As for subscribing, I’m not entirely sure but there is a +Follow button on a top bar in my window, I think this integrates the blog of choice with a WordPress’s own reader. But I don’t usually use WordPress!
